COUNTDOWN TO MANATEEFEST :

The Journey of Used Plastic in Palm Beach County

Join us at Manatee Lagoon for a special lecture in honor of Plastic-Free July! Many people receive mixed messages about what happens to their garbage and recycling after it leaves their home or workplace. In this presentation, learn how the Solid Waste Authority of Palm Beach County protects the environment by preventing waste from becoming pollution. We’ll explore which types of plastics are accepted in recycling bins, how those materials are processed after collection, and how we educate the public to reduce, reuse, recycle and rethink their waste every day – whether at home, school, work or play.

The Solid Waste Authority of Palm Beach County (SWA) was established in 1975 by the Florida State Legislature. The SWA Governing Board serves as the decision-making body for the SWA. While the Governing Board’s membership consists of the same individuals who serve on the Palm Beach County Commission, the Board acts in a separate and distinct capacity, focused solely on the Authority’s mission and operations. The mission of the SWA is to manage the materials discarded by the residents, businesses and visitors of Palm Beach County in a manner consistent with its legislative mandate and local, state and federal ordinances, regulations and laws. This is accomplished by providing a county-wide, integrated and coordinated set of environmentally responsible and cost-efficient solid waste management programs.
