Solid Waste Authority of Palm Beach County (SWA)
The Solid Waste Authority of Palm Beach County (SWA) is a government agency established in 1975 by the Florida Legislature to manage waste throughout the county. The Authority was created under the Palm Beach County Solid Waste Act, Chapter 2001-331, Laws of Florida, as amended, and is classified as a dependent special district. Its work is overseen by a Governing Board comprised of the seven elected Palm Beach County Commissioners, who act in a separate and distinct capacity from their roles as commissioners.
Today, the SWA serves more than 1.6 million residents, businesses and visitors, operating an award-winning, globally respected integrated solid waste management system. Its system combines recycling, reuse, energy recovery and disposal to manage waste efficiently and responsibly across the county, while maximizing diversion efforts to conserve landfill space and prolong the life of the landfill for generations to come.
