Come to Manatee Lagoon to learn all about Geoscience Education in Florida for our August Lecture at the Lagoon! Carson Ciesinski is a local educator that has taught in multiple roles to people of all ages. This lecture will go into his experiences in these roles, the different types of opportunities in this field, and the importance in learning about geology for the future of our society. Attendees will have the opportunity to see actual rocks and fossils taken from the field, along with some research equipment used to acquire them!
About the Presenter: Carson Ciesinski holds a Master of Science in Environmental Science and is currently a PhD student in the Department of Geosciences at Florida Atlantic University. His research has a broad focus in paleoecology and paleoenvironmental reconstruction. This includes his current work dealing with the Cretaceous-Paleogene Mass Extinction, more commonly known as the extinction of the dinosaurs. Carson’s experience in science goes beyond research, as he has held several roles as an educator in higher education, private schools, and environmental centers. These have extended him the opportunity to travel not only for his own research but also to teach students about science and geological phenomena all throughout Florida. Science education has become an essential part of Carson’s professional career, and in his talk he will share not only about his experiences but the value in creating geo-literacy at all age levels.
