Dolphin Spotter: A Land-Based Citizen Science Project

Join us at Manatee Lagoon for our January lecture series to learn about how citizen science contributes to marine mammal conservation! The Dolphin Spotter program gives citizens the opportunity to contribute vital information that helps to fill gaps in our understanding of where our beautiful dolphin populations wander within Florida. Attendees will also have the opportunity to register to participate in the Dolphin Spotter program.

About the Presenter: Samantha McGuire grew up in South Dakota and Minnesota before going to the University of Hawaii at Hilo for her first year of her undergraduate degree. She then finished her degree at Florida Atlantic University (FAU) where she completed the semester by the sea program at FAU Harbor Branch. This led Sam to apply to the master’s degree program in Marine Science and Oceanography where she participated various research on marine mammals, including dolphins and manatees. Sam graduated from FAU with a Master of Science and now works full time as an outreach and marine education specialist at Harbor Branch Oceanographic Institute.
