A Day in the Life of a Manatee Biologist

Join us for our first lecture of Manatee Season to learn about Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission’s manatee rescue program from Manatee Biologist Amber Howell. Attendees will learn how Amber and other researchers utilize photographs to identify and track manatees, including notable sightings at Manatee Lagoon. Amber will share her fascinating experiences working with manatees and will share valuable tips on identifying sick or injured manatees in need of rescue. Amber Howell is the Southeast field station lead for Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission’s Manatee program covering from Ft. Pierce to Key West. She started with FWC in 2009 and has 15 years of experience working with manatees throughout Florida. She is a graduate of University of Hawaii Hilo’s Marine Science program where she worked with the local stranding network and gained experience with Hawaiian monk seals, dolphins, whales, and sea turtles.
